Tibet Festival in London
— Frances Fox
On Saturday 3 July 2010 we are taking part in the Tibet Festival in the Park. This event has been organised by the Office of Tibet, Tibet Society, and the Tibetan Community in Britain, and is the official UK celebration of the Dalai Lama’s 75th birthday. It will be a very important event, a major Tibetan cultural celebration. The afternoon will be filled with musicians, performers from Tibet and around the World (including the Tashi Lhunpo monks, world-renowned Tibetan singer Soname, Mongolian overtone chanting and the Tibetan Community in Britain dance group plus other special guest acts). There will also be an array of stalls, Tibetan food and more.
Other activities available during the event are writing your own birthday message to the Dalai Lama on a windhorse, supping Tibetan tea in a traditional Tibetan nomadic tent, learning the history of Tibetan medicine as well as other many colourful and distinct traditions of Tibet in a variety of workshops including the art of the sand mandala, butter sculptures and traditional Tibetan singing. There will also be activites for children who can make prayer flags and yak puppets!
We are delighted to be part of this and hope that you wil come and support us at this great event. If you have a bit of free time and would like to volunteer, let us know. It’s from 12 noon - 6.00pm, (but we’ll be setting up from 9am), free admission, and will be at the Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park, London SE1 6HZ (next to the Imperial War Museum). Nearest tubes: Lambeth North, Elephant and Castle. See you there.
