Jane Hutt recently sponsored the display of the Art Refuge UK exhibition ‘Journey into Exile’ in
the Welsh Assembly.
She writes: 'This was a wonderful and evocative exhibition of work by children and young people
who have experienced traumatic events, and have had to flee their country of origin. I
congratulate Art Refuge on their imaginative work with these young people, and I feel honoured
to be associated with this wonderful exhibition.'

Gyalo Thondup visits Art Refuge Exhibition |
|
Gyalo Thondup, the elder brother of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, recently visited an Art Refuge Exhibition in New Delhi. Thanking Art Refuge for its work on behalf of Tibetan refugee children, he admired examples of the recent work made by children in the Art Refuge Programme. Based around the theme of 'Tibetan Identities in Transition', the exhibition was part of the arts event: 'Tibetan Voices in Exile' commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Tibetan Uprising. This event was funded and hosted by the Foundation for Universal Responsibility and the India International Centre.

update on the programme |
A visit in the spring of 2008 to both centres in Dharamsala and Kathmandu proved to be very poignant. It was an opportunity for us to check on our staff, to see what supplies were needed, and to spend time with any children present. For a detailed account, see the blog at update
The highlight, though, was the incredible opportunity for us to meet with the Dalai Lama.

Support from UK MPs |
In 2008 we had the pleasure of meeting with some of our MPs who are members of the All- Party Group for Tibet. Two of them kindly sent us messages of support. Harry Cohen, the MP for Leyton and Wanstead has this to say: "I was very happy to recently meet in Parliament Frances Fox and Karen Littleton who briefed me on the work of Art Refuge. I was very impressed at the reaching out, through art, to Tibetan children in exile in both Dharamsala and Nepal.
This is real support, that goes a long way beyond just
art, to vulnerable children. It brings much needed happiness,well-being and self esteem to these children
I declare my support and best wishes, Harry Cohen MP
Kailashblog
And Julie Morgan, M. P. for Cardiff North, said: "
When I visited Dharamsala last year, I was fortunate enough to meet many Tibetan children and I am very glad that Art Refuge UK is both there and in Kathmandu providing such
support and positive experiences for them.
It's important that we remember the difficult situation facing so many Tibetan children and I applaud such creative efforts to help them.

London launch |
Our London Launch of Art Refuge UK at the Sweet Tea House in Bethnal Green was pretty successful. We also hosted a visit to the UK of Ama Adhe, one of our staff members from Dharamsala.
There is a blog devoted to the exhibition and Ama Adhe's visit: exhibitionblog
and click on the keyword 'exhibition.' For some reason the blogs are in chronological order...starting from the latest entry, so you have to go to the bottom of the page for the start of proceedings. If I can work out how to change it, I will, promise.
